Set amongst the Cariboo Mountains, Quesnel Lake is surrounded by countless small lakes, rivers, creeks, beaches, and waterfalls.

Quesnel Lake and its neighbouring still waters, streams and rivers offer the angler an unique opportunity to flyfish, troll or spin cast for wild British Columbia rainbows trout in a remote wilderness environment. Spectacular mountains, stunning scenery, fantastic angling, clean air, potable water, within driving distance, and offering affordable excellence. Elysia Resort & Lodge remains devoted to answering your call for the wild!

And, with over 30 smaller bodies of water within an hours drive, we are a great location for the still water enthusiast. We also have two major rivers for unparalleled flyfishing experiences, for both the novice and the experienced. The diversity of our area creates a unique experience for all types to enjoy, all in a spectacular and uncrowded British Columbia wilderness setting.

Guided Fishing Packages... Let us take you down a river by drift boat so you can concentrate on your dry fly presentation to the wild resident rainbow trout that can average 2-3 pounds and can exceed 10 pounds! Travel by jet boat to a river in the Cariboo Mountains Park, where you can spot and stalk the big rainbows and Bull Trout that follow the Sockeye into the river to forage on egg patterns. Try wet or dry trophy flyfishing on one of our small stillwaters from a pontoon boat. Wind-drift the big lake. These may be the best fishing experiences anywhere to be found. Ask about our fully guided packages, or, let us customize one especially for you.

"Quesnel Lake is one of only a few large lakes in North America where trophy size rainbows can be caught in an uncrowded wilderness setting." Jack Leggett, Senior Fisheries Biologist B. C. Ministry of Environment

"Quesnel Lake is probably the best kept fishing secret in all of North America largely due to the few outfitters on the lake and its remoteness. I rate Quesnel Lake as one of the top 10 big trout waters on this continent."

Bernie Taylor, Author of Big Trout, published 2002 by The Lyons Press

Elysia Lodge ... unique wilderness flyfishing!

Looking for an extraordinary opportunity to cast for trophy wild rainbow trout in one of the world's most pristine & unique settings? From diverse stillwaters to Sockeye salmon creeks and rivers, the exceptionally beautiful and unique Quesnel Lake ecosystem offers Rainbow trout angling that is unparalleled anywhere in British Columbia. Measured in pounds and not inches, many expert flyfishers say that this is hard to match anywhere on earth! Spectacular natural beauty, coupled with comfortable accommodations, housekeeping cabins or guest rooms, fine dining, and guides whose knowledge is second to none in this region, makes for an unforgettable wilderness adventure.

Quesnel Lake is located in the Cariboo Mountains, east of the community of Williams Lake, BC. Forged by glaciers, it is the deepest freshwater fjord in the world (over 2000 feet deep!). Fed by numerous creeks and two major rivers, it is the nursery that hosts the off spring of millions of Sockeye salmon. In short, you have all the ingredients for truly spectacular angling for a genetically pure strain of slow maturing trout. Fueled with the by-products of the Sockeye's reproductive cycle - eggs, fry and flesh, these unique creatures are able to reach massive proportions, in the double digits. And, better yet, they eagerly chase a well presented fly!

Many 'experts' would look at this lake and simply say that it cannot be worked with a fly. Nothing could be further from the truth. From casting egg patterns to ' bucktailing ', our guides will open your eyes to one of the world's best kept secrets. It's pure excitement! Imagine yourself on the casting deck of your guide's boat, fly rod in hand, ready to make that perfect cast into a pulsating ball of salmon fry. Armed with the knowledge that these 'bait balls' are being formed from below by large hungry rainbows, your adrenaline will start pumping and your heart thumping. Imagine watching these huge predators slash through the balls of baitfish. Now, place the perfect cast, made the perfect retrieve, and suddenly, there's a strike from a 12 pounder! Of course, actually landing these giants involves skill, the right equipment and perhaps a little luck. If you are seeking a new and unique experience, Elysia Resort is exactly what you have been looking for. Why wait any longer, come visit us and prepare for the fight of a lifetime.

Prime flyfishing in Quesnel Lake and its numerous feeder creeks starts in the middle of May and continues through October. The action can be fast and furious on the water as well as at the creek mouths. Catches of 25 trout a day are not uncommon, but beware those days require physical stamina. While rainbows are our primary targets, Bull trout, Lake trout, Kokanee, as well as whitefish are all present.

Pioneering new and unique flyfishing opportunities! We are continually pioneering new techniques and patterns, and consequently revolutionizing the science behind the art of flyfishing in this huge body of water. We are dedicated to a 'match the hatch' philosophy, and offer world-class instruction on techniques specially designed to catch these extraordinary trout. In fact, we consider our lodge to be a learning center. If you are new to the sport, or merely seeking an environment that will take your skills to the next level, we think you will be impressed. For us, nothing beats the pure satisfaction of assisting our guests to realize their dreams, and hopefully the "catch of a lifetime."

Small & Intimate Stillwaters

Great flyfishing is not limited to only the large lake and its feeder creeks. In fact, small stillwaters abound in this Cariboo region, offering yet another angling experience. These intimate stillwaters boast large numbers of trout, which feed confidently on scuds, leeches, chironomids, caddis flies, mayflies, damselflies, dragonflies and corixa. These complex aquatic hatches can lead to unmatched action both on the surface with a dry fly and below with nymphs. This is really an intimate experience where you will feel at harmony with the wilderness around you. Your soul will be recharged listening to the call of the loons and contemplating the gentler aspects of life.

For many of us, exploring new river systems is the primary reason we are fly fishermen, and our eco-system boasts two of British Columbia's premier trophy streams. By jet boat, pontoon boats or drift boats, let us take you on a stretch of water you will find hard to forget!

Our river season starts in mid July and lasts through September. Large Quesnel Lake rainbows will be present waiting for the huge returning runs of sockeye salmon. July can deliver outstanding dry fly action for these big 'bows with caddis and hopper imitations. By late August these waters are congested with spawning salmon. Rainbows are also present in ever increasing numbers and they are here for one reason only… to feast on the nymphs freed from the river bottom through the act of redd building, salmon eggs and eventually decaying salmon flesh. This means that for the fly fisher, it is the best chance to catch a trophy rainbow in a British Columbia river. This is truly exciting, and sometimes it can be simply magical. Memories last a lifetime and the guides at Elysia Lodge are here to put you in the best possible position to make your trip something you will never forget. Don't miss this opportunity!

Our Guides

Beginning in 2003, we are introducing our new flyfishing program, conducted by our chief guide, Quille Farnham. Quille's experience on Quesnel Lake, as well as the surrounding stillwaters and streams, continually reveals a blue-ribbon fishery, which rivals any of the hallowed waters in North America. Both experts as well as beginners will find Quille's knowledge and expertise invaluable in their quest for that special catch. No matter what your level of competence, Quille's motto - "you never stop learning" - applies directly to the this ecosystem. Whether its fly tying, fly casting or actually finding and landing the big fish, you will be comforted to know you are in the very capable hands of Quille Farnham and her assistant guides.

Of course, a first-rate guide service implies careful attention to your comfort on the water, and therefore we've purchased new equipment to enhance your enjoyment. These improvements exemplify a commitment to provide you, our valued guests, with a "complete package."
